Random Musings

April 17, 2010

(I do have a few posts in the works, but they’re not quite ready to go yet, so this will have to do for now.)

(Random Musings is my post for when I have quite a few ideas rolling around my head, but none of them are big enough for me to expand them into a full blog post. Also, this type of post is quick and easy to write.)

1. Lately, I’ve noticed an alarmingly high amount of ‘goodbye’ posts, both on the wowforums and the blogosphere. And the more I thought about them, the more I realised that most of them were people who have been playing WoW since vanilla. And a hell of a lot of their posts included stuff like: ‘bored with the game’, don’t like where Blizzard’s taking the game’, ‘game is becoming too easy’, stuff like that. And I’ve come to the conclusion that vanilla WoWers are a dying breed. I think the game is changing far too much away from what they originally bought the game for. WoW has gotten progressively easier and easier as expansions roll by, and Blizzard show’s no signs of stopping. I mean look at the emblem grindfest that is WotLK’s endgame. It’s a far cry from the hardcore eliteness that was vanilla 40mans

I think if we give it enough time, there will be more and more TBCbabies like me quitting for the same reason. In less than a year there’s going to be people who have never known anything other than the after-Cataclysm Azeroth. They’ll be listening to people like us talking about ‘the good old days’, and have no idea what we’re talking about.

WoW is an ever changing game, you’ve got to accept that some people who loved it in it’s original state aren’t going to in 2 or 3 expansions.

2. I think Stranglethorn is the ‘turning point’ for me with my alts. It’s the point where I know that this character is serious, and I’m not going to delete it. This ones going all the way to 80. That said, quest-wise, i hate the zone. Aethetically, I love it. But the questing is horrible. Come to think of it, those entire lvls are horrible. 30-40, there is so much jumping around, it’s stupid. Whatever zone you’re lvling in,  there’s going to be a point where you hit ‘the gap’. That time where there’s tons of quests that are good for the lvls below you, and above you, but none at your lvl. You look at your quest log and all the quests are either red or green. (Mostly red.) Bleh.

3. I don’t get what everyone is so fussed about with the celestial mount. For some reason it’s got the whole blog community riled up and up in arms. Does not having it: Give other players an advantage over you? No. Will they get the raid spot because they had the mount and you didn’t? No. Is it the only mount of it’s type in the game? No. Does it affect your character in any way? No. Does it make you jealous? Maybe, but if it does that’s your own fault and you should stop bitching and just buy the damn thing. And for all those complaining over how Blizzard is making a profit of the mount, I believe Nibuca over at Mystic Chicanery says it best: “Blizz operates in a capitalistic society. This is where it’s OK, nay encouraged for companies to make money. Please interwebs stop flapping your arms about how a-moral Blizz is for daring to make money. Seriously.. if you’d’ve thought of it and could make money off of it you know you would so have done it.” Someone put in some hard work designing and coding that uber pwetty mount into the game. And hard work ain’t free. Deal with it.
